Final Fantasy XIV Releases Today

Today is the day. If you have a decently powerful PC (Unlike me, I need to wait for the PS3 release next year) then you can go out right now and pick up Final Fantasy XIV for PC. This Massively Multiplayer Online RPG promises to give you a Final Fantasy experience that you could potentially play for years. This game is truly massive with an equally massive amount of things to do. Fishing, crafting, socializing, questing, gathering, and all the usual MMO type stuff. Of course battling it out with the indigenous creatures is at the heart of the game. As should always be expected, Square-Enix puts it's own spin on all the usual MMO staples. From the guildleve questing system to the unique way you change your job classes, if you have any interest in Final Fantasy or MMORPG's then you owe it to yourself to give this game a try. As for myself, I'm anxiously awaiting the Playstation 3 release in 2011.

New Scott Pilgrim $1.99 DLC

I haven't played Scott Pilgrim in a few weeks now and soon I'll have a reason to get back at it. The Official Playstation Blog tells us that a new DLC pack will be available in early November for only $1.99. This DLC will unlock one extra character to play as, Knives Chau. Dodgeball and Battle Royale modes will also be added, along with 3 new Knives-related Trophies. There is also a free patch upcoming with bug fixes and drop-in multiplayer.

Supernatural / Season 3 - Part 1

I'm finally back to write about more Supernatural! It's been a couple weeks or so but I finally have my hands on seasons 3 and 4 (Thanks Brad!) and plan to watch a lot more in the coming weeks. This block will cover the first 2 discs of the DVD so that's about 7 or 8 episodes. I won't be discussing all of them but I've noticed that a lot of them, filler or not, have been excellent. I'll try to find my favorite 5 episodes or so from the block to write about.

Dexter / Season 5 - Episode 1

Oh Dexter, I've thought long and hard tonight about what I thought about this premiere episode. Dexter and I have had our ups and downs over the past couple of seasons. As I've said in my previous Dexter post, I loved the first two seasons, but I lost my interest a little since then. Last season had it's awesome moments and episodes, but the ending didn't sit well with me. I had high hopes for the premiere though, and I have to say, it was quite depressing. Not in the way some might think though. I actually enjoyed the episode overall.

Thoughts / Red Dead Redemption

When I was younger I would have never looked twice at any game from Rockstar. Nowadays, I find myself playing all sorts of genres including the likes of Red Dead Redemption. I heard so much hype about RDR, I also did enjoy the last few Grand Theft Auto entries, so I thought "Hey, I've never really played a game that takes place in the wild west, why not give it a try?" So far, Red Dead Redemption is easily my nomination for Game Of The Year.

Shows I've found on Netflix Canada

I'm quite shocked at all the negativity I've seen so far about the selection we Canadians get for Netflix. Why bother with a service like Netflix if you don't have a wide array of genres that you like. I do agree that they need more, but there is definitely a lot of good stuff to watch currently to hold me over. I'm going to list all the movies and shows that are available on Netflix that you may have not noticed were even there.

Fringe / Season 3 - Episode 1

Probably my most anticipated show to start this fall, Fringe season 3 is finally here! I had just finished going through the entirety of seasons 1 and 2 over the last couple months with my brother. Getting him ready for this years premiere episode. Last years Fringe finale was something else, it completely blew me away. Did the first episode of season 3 raise the bar yet again?

Netflix for PS3

As of a couple days ago, Netflix is finally available in Canada! Once I found out that you get the first 30 days completely free, I signed up. I've had my PS3 for a couple years now and usually illegally download my movies and TV shows. Mostly because I'm limited in my cable TV options and I really hate commercials, as well as watching a standard definition picture on an HDTV. Now that Netflix is available on my PS3 (it's disc-less too!) in the near future I may not have much use for my current PC.

The Event / Season 1 - Episode 1

At about the half way point through the pilot I was a little afraid that this show was going to be solely about a kidnapping. I've seen plenty of movies and television shows about real-life issues and quite frankly am very tired of it. I'm looking for something real-life, but with a serious sci-fi twist. Just like Supernatural, Smallville, Lost, and Fringe, The Event has that serious sci-fi twist.

Dissidia 012 [Duodecim] Final Fantasy

There isn't all that much known about this new Dissidia game, besides a strange and unnecessarily complicated title. A few characters have been released and a couple nice screenshots of gameplay. It seems the core gameplay that was seen in Dissidia remains intact, which in my opinion is excellent news. According to Joystiq, Dissidia Duodecim will have Tifa, Lightning, and Kain so far as playable characters. As well as some "RPG mode" and a playable Chaos storyline. Sounds like we'll see complete storylines for all the villains this time.

Fringe / Season 2

Just finished my re-watch of Fringe tonight. Just in time for the new season to start a few days from tonight. After the way season 2 ends, I'm very anxious to see where Fringe goes next. I found that season 2 was a much easier season to re-watch, probably because there was a lot less character development this season, we got all that in season 1. This season got right to the heavy mythology of Fringe. Alternate Dimensions.

Thoughts / Chrono Trigger

Why aren't games made with the same quality as they used to be? I just spent almost 30 hours with Chrono Trigger on my PSP, which is a fat PSP1000 model with an SNES emulator. Just finishing the game a minute ago, I had to write about it.

Chrono Trigger is one of the many video games I played during my youth. This game probably being my absolute favorite. Partly because I could hardly ever get my hands on a copy to play. I always had to borrow it from a friend or maybe rent it if I happened to see it in a video store.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Gameplay Leaked

That's right, FINALLY we have some gameplay video of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the next installment in the Fabula Nova Crysallis series. Most likely these videos won't stay up for very long since Square-Enix wants to be extremely tight-lipped about this entry in the series. I've been waiting to see anything on this game for at least 2 years. Even though it's only roughly 33 seconds, it's nice to know that this game officially exists ;)

Thoughts / Demon's Souls

I waited over a year to pick Demon's Souls up because of all the harsh reviews out there. All of them warned me about how difficult and frustrating this game would be. A challenge is not what I solely look for in my video games. I want something I can relax and play, without constantly worrying about losing all my progress when I get instantly killed by something jumping out of the darkness. Demon's Souls isn't like that, it usually takes about 2 hits from that creature jumping out of the darkness. That is, if you're not paying attention.

Final Fantasy XIV Opening Cinematic

The opening movie for Final Fantasy XIV has been released in it's full length glory. Is it ever freakin awesome. The quality is exactly what anyone should expect from Square-Enix and totally reminds me of the proper balance of technology and fantasy that was Final Fantasy VI (FF3 on Super Nintendo) Check out the video and leave your thoughts on it in the comments please.

True Blood / Season - 3 Finale

I finally found the time to sit down and watch the season 3 finale this afternoon. I was told beforehand from a good friend that the finale "sucked ass" and that he believes the show is going downhill. I just finished watching it about 3 minutes ago and I have very mixed feelings. So much going on I don't know where to start. Lots of good, lots of bad, and lots of "what the hell?" moments.

Supernatural / Season 2 Part - 5

It took awhile for me to get started on writing this article because I've been watching a lot of Fringe with my brother. I'm also still waiting for Supernatural season 3 to arrive. So it's not like I could get started with the next season right away anyways. So here are my thoughts on the season 2 finale for Supernatural.

Fringe / Season 1

My brother and I just finished the season 1 finale and he's loving it. However, I personally don't enjoy the filler episodes so much. I do understand that the producers need to fill a 20 episode season with more than just mythology episodes, but I have a hard time getting through some of them. Some of them don't really have anything to do with the bio-terrorist organization known as ZFT. I do enjoy when a filler-esque episode involves Olivia's cortexiphan abilities. Like when she starts seeing glimpses of the "other side" during an investigation.

Sequel to Final Fantasy: Dissidia to be released in 2011

Now here is some awesome news! This came out of nowhere for me. Square-Enix revealed in the newest Shonen Jump (I found out by reading Joystiq) that a sequel to Final Fantasy: Dissidia, called Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy, will be arriving in Japan next year for the PSP! I think I'm going to end a lot of sentences with exclamation points in this post! The playable characters revealed so far are Kain from Final Fantasy IV and Lightning from the recently released Final Fantasy XIII! This is such exciting news! I'm hoping to get some of my favorite characters added, such as:

- Rufus (Final Fantasy VII)
- Seifer (Final Fantasy VIII)
- Steiner (Final Fatasy IX)
- Auron (Final Fantasy X)

Thoughts / NHL 11

After last years buggy NHL 10, I swore off NHL games for awhile. Then a few weeks ago I played the NHL 11 demo and it completely changed my mind. Which I guess I should of expected, I'm a sucker for hockey. I didn't find that NHL 10 offered that much more compared to NHL 09. NHL 11 however, I feel has reached the peak of what a hockey video game can do. I honestly have no idea what they can do to improve this franchise on our current generation of consoles. NHL 11 does everything almost perfectly. The only reason I say "almost" is because nothing is perfect. Honestly though, I can't find anything wrong with this game, but I've only had it for a couple days so maybe there's some glitches or gameplay issues that other people have experienced. It's just been a perfect experience for me so far.

Preview / DC Universe Online

DC Universe (DCU) is an MMORPG that's being developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). It's set to release simultaneously on PS3 and PC on November 2nd 2010, I'll be most likely picking it up for PS3 on that very day. Unless reviews are extremely negative and there doesn't seem to be any hope of this being a good game, then I'll pass. Let's see what we know so far...

Final Fantasy XIV at PAX

Some boring Square-Enix guy gave a presentation at PAX this weekend, showing off some great FFXIV gameplay and cutscenes. I can only find two parts to this video at the moment, but I'll add part 3 if it shows up. It seems to get cut off. Square-Enix has gone above and beyond what any dev has done with an MMO before. I'm sure that the other two starting city-states have great opening scenes, but I really want to start in Gridania now because of this video.

Supernatural / Season 2 - Part 4

This will probably be my last post on Supernatural for awhile, (Edit: I lied) at least for the re-watch anyways. I've finished season 2 and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get a hold of season 3, unless I decide to download it at a later time.

I've been getting back into Fringe and so I might write up an article on my re-watch of that. I've been watching it with my brother the past few days and he'll be back to visit next week to finish off season 1. It's also September and so a lot of new and old shows are going to have new episodes each week, so I'll have to keep up with that.

Starting this month, the NHL (National Hockey League) stuff is about to get underway. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for this new season to start. So I'll have lots to write about for the foreseeable future. Okay, so here's my thoughts on the last bits of season 2 of Supernatural. Enjoy.

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Videos

Final Fantasy XIV, god knows how badly I want this game on my PS3. I've been following podcasts and articles for over a year now and like to think I pretty much know how it all works. So I'll be posting a bunch of my favorite videos found around the web on this here page. You can also check out the Crystal Core Podcast from FFXIVCORE.com for more information.

Supernatural / Season 2 - Part 3

I took a little bit of a break from Supernatural (and writing in general, actually) for a few days. I had my brother over and we started watching Fringe. He's never really watched it before so I had to show him. He loves it, and I can't wait for season 3! Because of that quick re-watch though I've put my Supernatural re-watchness on a hiatus. Now I should be back on track though, at least for a little while.

Thoughts / Castle Crashers

I love Castle Crashers. Not as much as these fools, but it was definitely worth the almost $20 price. The music is a tad bland, but I've also been playing a lot of Scott Pilgrim, and the music in that game kicks a lot of ass.

This game is what, 2 years old? It was first released on Microsoft's XBox awhile back and has been in development for the PS3 for a long long time. As of this past Tuesday the game was finally released. I played the demo cooperatively with my brother and made the purchase shortly thereafter.

Thoughts / Fringe

The series follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation "Fringe Division" team based in Boston, Massachusetts under the supervision of Homeland Security. The team uses unorthodox "fringe" science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate "the Pattern", a series of unexplained, often ghastly occurrences that are happening all over the world." - Wikipedia

This show does a heck of a lot of things right. If you loved X-Files, there's a good chance you'll love this show, especially once it gets into the meat and potatoes.
